Marcus Silcock on “Potatoes of Promise”
In another lifetime, I grew up rural, in N. Ireland, saturated in religion, collecting the farmer's milk with my granda in the lorry. Then, immigrating to America, I met cowboys and farmers, in a little town called Hurricane, not far from St. George, Utah. There was a robot cow. It was near a Motel 6. Lots of people came and went from there and sometimes they brought deer antlers. Since then it is mostly big cities, in various countries, but the roots are rural, and slightly gothic. I am a fan of rural horror, such as The Wicker Man, Midsommar, and Children of the Corn. Also M. Night Shyamalan's The Village. There were lots of farmers and preachers and sometimes the casting of demons in my early childhood. David Lynch is maybe my favourite horror, especially his talking rabbits. Talking animals move my spirit.
