Comedy can help, but bad comedy is worse. Don’t explore the depths of the ocean. Just don’t. Ope, the killer is in the woods.

Cat Jumps Out

and startles our protagonist, which is understandable given the circumstances, and may explain, in part, why in the sequel, 57 years later, this same cat, affectionately called a “little shit-head,” stays behind which was just fine with everybody.

Unscary Villain/Monster

Family functions in a completely normal cul-de-sac.

Actually, keep the footage grainy.

They replaced an actual golden retriever with a CGI monster golden retriever to sell baked beans

and no one is happy.
