Lillie E. Franks on “Under the Gyre”

Writing always comes from two places: on the one hand, an image that feels compelling and fun, and on the other, something real that's worth talking about. Whenever those two meet, you have a story. Here, I was trying to bring together the image of a Great Pacific Garbage Patch of ghosts with the question of how we face the things that are too large for us to understand. This is what came out.
