Juliet Cook on Her Poems
My poem “Unsettled” has a radiator in it, which causes me to think of The Lady in the Radiator in Eraserhead.
My poem “Phantasmagorical Bloodbath” includes parasitic creatures such as leeches, of which I was terrified as a kid. I called them bloodsuckers and I really did see one in our kiddie pool once. Bloodsucking leeches in a film scene causes me to think of Stand By Me.
The poems also include mirrors and water and blood. As is often the case, my poems incorporate parts of reality with parts of dreams/nightmares and undertones of horror, because that's how my brain works and interprets.
